In HIS Steps is an annual opportunity to connect into mission and ministry through the life of our congregation. Please fill out the personal information below. Then, check the boxes preceding any ministries that you would like to explore (if you need an explanation as to what each ministry area means, just let your mouse hover over the little question mark icon). Growing in Faith - Worship
AV Tech Team Use creative and computer skills to prepare slides for contemporary worship services and announcements.
Use computer skills to run slides during worship
Oversee the sound board during church services, Thursday evening rehearsals, and outdoor worship
Help create and/or produce video elements for worship; possible film crew during worship
Mentor Confirmation Wednesday Worship Support youth with music preparation for Wed. evening worship (grades 7-9) during the school year; rehearse on Sunday afternoons.
Rehearse and present skits for Wed. evening worship (grades 7-9) during the school year
Help create and run power point presentations at Wed. evening worship (grades 7-9) during the school year
Music Rehearse and play hand bells for selected traditional worship services and special events
Attend weekly Monday evening rehearsals and sing in contemporary worship monthly; and for select special occasions
Rehearse weekly on Thursday evening and play during the contemporary services
Rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings and sing an anthem at the 9 AM service

Adult Faith Formation Give input and help with creative writing for weekly sermon handouts.

Family and Youth Learn to be a clown or use puppets for children’s worship or other events.
Make sure that the Kid’s Kart is organized and restocked for Sunday worship
Help to coordinate volunteers for the church nursery for Sundays or special events
Work with regular care givers and team to help care for infants and toddlers during a church service or a special event
Play music or encourage singing during Sunday school time
Prepare printed materials and communications to parents to assist Sunday School teachers

Compassion in Action Purchase gifts or food for a needy local family at Christmas. Help to deliver gifts.
Be part of a home improvement team to help a local family in need in April 2007
Other Service Areas Be a part of a monthly team to make quilts using basic sewing skills and assemble newborn layettes for those in need. This team works with Lutheran World Relief.
Assist in planning and go with a team of youth to work on a home building project for the disadvantaged. Planning skills, love for youth, willingness to help youth work as a team.
Help to plan St. John’s youth participation in a multi-congregation weekend event (Feb. 2007) for hunger awareness and fund-raising. Includes fellowship, service activities, and 30-hour fast.

Growing in Hope - Invite
Servant Evangelism Plan and lead a team to carry out a planned act of kindness or service as outreach to the community
Take part in a planned act of kindness or service as an outreach to the community
In HIS Steps Contact new members and assist them with questions regarding the church; help with In His Steps forms; foster them to get connected
Help coordinate the In His Steps process, participate in new member class preparation, and weekly member recognition in the Update.
Community Christmas Play Organize and set up fellowship refreshments following the Christmas musical, Dec. 16th
Assist with production planning and logistics, tickets, program, etc for the Christmas play

Other Invitation Areas Prepare a home baked gift for new members of the St. John faith community.

Growing in Love - Connect
Fellowship Groups Participate in this monthly fellowship for women 50+
Parents and kids meet weekly during the day for various play activities and adult fellowship
Participate in a monthly social gathering for senior citizens
Participate in this weekly small group for Bible study and fellowship
Fellowship Events Assist with coordination of this December event
Help to coordinate this camping trip to a large weekend concert in PA. Must love crowds, teens and contemporary Christian music!
Help cook, prepare or purchase food for a specific fellowship event at the church
Help to prepare food or games for a picnic on the St. John Park lawn
Help with recruitment, decoration, and/or pie baking for fellowship event
Assist at a fellowship and/or service event for youth

Growing in Love - Care
Member Care Prepare and deliver meals to new parents
Help out with luncheons by bringing food from your home and/or serving
Lay Pastor Lead a worship service for assisted living and/or nursing homes during the week
Be part of a team to make regularly planned contacts to people in this faith community who have suffered the recent loss of a family member or friend. Extend Christian love by listening.
Visit members in hospitals and distribute communion to individual homes
Offer encouragement and compassion to members by phone contact and visits
Other Care Areas Participate in life skills classes being offered by the church
Knit or crochet shawls or similar items to be presented in prayer to members and friends who are going through a season of illness or difficulty. Lay pastors coordinate with the recipients.
Receive prayer requests by e-mail and pray for them during the week

Resource Ministries
Finance Meets monthly for oversight of church finances, budget, investments, etc.
