Once a year, the In His Steps ministry encourages the people of St. John to explore different areas of serving our community of faith. Your completed form will help our leaders find out what activities you are interested in!
Instructions: Check the boxes next to any activity that you would like to explore. You will be contacted regarding your interest. Remember to check the boxes of any current areas of participation where you wish to remain active. Please, one form per person.

Worship Use computer skills to prepare or run slides for worship
Oversee the sound board during church services and Thursday evening rehearsals
Help create and/or produce video elements for worship; possible film crew during worship
Set-up & clean up communion services (early service may be set up on Sat); refill candles, change seasonal altar cloths & banners on a rotating basis with others
Assist with communion distribution during a contemporary service
Purchase materials to make floral arrangements for altar as requested for special dedications; coordinate floral ministry
Be part of a team to decorate the sanctuary for seasonal events
Read lessons, distribute communion and assist pastors during 9AM service
Be part of a team to greet people, pass out bulletins, help visitors find a seat, collect offering and direct people to communion

Assist with weekly Middle and High School youth event during Sunday School

Serve Be a part of a monthly team to make simple quilts and assemble newborn layettes for those in need; team prepares items for with Lutheran World Relief
Assist in planning and go with a team of youth and adults to work on a house for an under-privileged family in Western Maryland, August 2008
Help to coordinate a weekend–long fellowship and service event for High School youth in February 2008. Teamwork may be scheduled in shifts.
Invite Plan and lead a team to carry out a planned act of kindness or service as an outreach to our community

Contact new members and assist them with questions regarding the church; help with In His Steps follow up; foster members to get connected

Connect Be a part of a short term fellowship and Bible Study group (Usually 4-6 weeks)
Participate in a monthly social gathering for senior citizens
Participate in this weekly small group for Bible study and fellowship
Help to prepare food or games for a picnic on the St. John Park lawn
Assist at a fellowship and/or service event for youth
Care Make prayer shawls for shut-ins and those encountering life challenges
Receive prayer requests by e-mail and pray for them during the week
Prepare and deliver meals to new parents
Support a grieving family by bringing food from your home and/or serving at a funeral luncheon
Make phone calls to families who have experienced loss
Visit hospitalized or shut-in members and distribute communion
Offer encouragement and compassion to members by phone contact and visits
Resource Ministries Assist staff with your professional expertise as the need arises
Assist with planting and maintenance of the church grounds
Be part of a team to maintain and trouble-shoot office computer network
Photograph events for the website and/or members for the church database
Help with mailings, bulletins and various office functions
Coordinate a property repair or improvement project
List the skill(s) you can share for property projects, such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, etc.
